UMPRUM Winter Semester School Project – Prague, Czech Republic

The theme for this semester’s project was, “Memory of Our Nation.” My parents emigrated from Czechoslovakia to the United States in the 1980s hoping to find a better quality life and freedom away from communism. My siblings and I were born and raised in America, yet we have always felt more at home in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. I moved to Prague in 2015. The heavy pull to return to my roots and to the culture of my mother and father inspired me to create a symbol of my return – a large ceramic braid. I also was interviewed on the Czech National Television about this project.
